Resilience is about how different people respond to threatening or stressful situations. A person's ability to be resilient can depend on circumstances - they may be able to overcome challenges in one situation but not in another. Furthermore, while one person may have difficulty handling a particular situation or use strategies that have negative outcomes for them, another may be able to overcome the same challenge easily. It is important to understand that resilience is not a fixed characteristic in an individual but is changeable and can be improved upon. Building and developing resiliency is a continuous process regardless of the starting point for the individual.
Resilience plays an important role in minimising the affects of negative events in young people's lives, therefore it is crucial to help them develop the ability to cope in spite of adversity and achieve positive outcomes.

Resilience can be a great trait to possess, especially in those who are going through difficult circumstances and events in their lives. If one was to conduct a research study on resilience however, would you just look at the natural events that are occuring in a child's life? I would think it would not be ethical to create circumstances that test resilience, but I believe most children experience events that affect future situations, feelings, and beliefs. Would there be a way to track someone over spans of lifetime at different ages and stages in their lives? This would help to prove your point that resilience is a changeable process. Would you provide specific lessons or trainings on how to deal with difficult circumstances in your life to become more resilient? Do you know of any studies that have been done on this subject?
I should say that you gave valuable information, resilience can help a child handle a rough situation in their lives. How would you conduct the research, will you create scenarios where the volunteers need to make a difficult choice or you will do it in people like children where they already had a tragic situation, like a violent car accident, dead of a family member, or natural disasters like a hurricane? will that be ethical?
